David was born June 28, 1965, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the union of William S. (“Bill”) and the late Barbara Jean Divers Barnhart, who predeceased him in 2008.
Surviving are his father and step-mother Carolyn Murray of Little River, his brother Mark (Lea Ann) and niece Laura of Lincoln, Nebraska, his brother Steven (Tami) of North Myrtle Beach, several aunts and uncles, many cousins, and innumerable friends.
At the time of his passing he was employed by Stock Components as a structural engineer. He graduated from Apex (NC) High School in 1983. Throughout his life he was a musician, starting off as a clarinetist and changing to drums. Before becoming a member of several country/rock and rock bands in both Carolinas and Tennessee (where he was a musicians’ union member and performed professionally), he sang in the family gospel group with his parents and brothers in churches in Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina, and played the drums. He made many friends throughout his life, and most remained friends until his passing. He had an infectious sense of humor and was always ready to share a good laugh.
Assisting the family is Lee Funeral Home, Little River. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017. A later memorial service and burial in Ravenswood, West Virginia, will be scheduled for the spring.
