I first met Murphy back in 1976 at CNA. He took me under his wing and we became best work buddies. He was more like the big brother I never had. My husband Terry worked for Murphy as an electrician for many years in the data center and they became best buddies too. We share many many years of great memories and will miss him terribly.  To one of the greatest guys we know! RIP. 

I have great memories working with John at CNA when we worked together at the Data Center. He was a tough guy from the outside but a true nice guy from the inside. He was an amazing mentor and I thank him for taking the time to train me and believe in me. He always knew how to put a smile on my face by placing a tootsie roll lollipop on my desk each day and when he would surprise us with those amazing zucchini breads. I’m sad to hear that he is no longer on this earth but know he has a special place in so many of our hearts.  My condolences to his family.

My condolence to the family. Very sad news to hear.  Great man, great colleague, great friend, and well loved.  May he rest in peace.

16 yrs ago we moved into our house not realizing we were gaining new family members with the Murphy's.  Our kids never had a grandpa and "Murph Man", as my kids endearingly called him gladly filled that role.  Our kids looked up to him, spent hours on end annoying him with random questions,  convinced him to come watch their soccer games, made frequent visits to the house for treats, loved a good lawnmower ride with Mr. Murph, and enjoyed playing in his yard while he lovingly yelled at them to keep them in line. They were also pretty good at getting a good smile and laugh out of the tough guy! Our son loved talking fishing, asking millions of questions about his boat, having Murph teach him how to tie a fishing knot, bringing his tangled rods over for Murph to fix, and he even went so far to wearing pocket t shirts, which he called his "Murphy shirts".  The Brentwood Block neighbors loved hearing his old stories of the glory days, and we could always count on him to tell us the right way to do things.  His dinner table always had an open seat with plenty of food and everyone was welcome! He was notorious for watching me use the weed Wacker while not wearing eye protection and would always walk over with a pair of safety glasses for me and scold  me to wear eye protection. I will think of him everytime I am working in the yard. Murph was tough on the outside, but was a teddy bear with a heart of gold. He made sure everyone felt like family and would give the shirt off his back if needed.  He was so proud of his family! He loved Mrs. Murphy with his whole heart and couldn't have been more proud of Pat and Mike, who are both as good of men as their Dad. We are grateful to have had this wonderful man and his family in our lives for so many years. Murph man will definitely be missed, but more importantly he will be remembered!

We will always  cherish our card games and the laughs we shared, and John contributed many stories to keep us laughing.
We will miss you.

I have fond memories of Murph at CNA.  He was a guy who always was there to help with any technical problems at work.  He was one of the good ones.  Gone way too soon.  

Worked with Murph for many years at “big red”. CNA. Lot of good memories and good times. A great guy.
