Elaine T. Uhler, nee Elaine T. Peterka, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2022. Born in Chicago, IL on Oct. 8, 1931, the daughter of Anthony and Therese Peterka. She is survived by her four children, David Uhler (Martha), Karen Uhler, Bob Uhler (Meike), and Donna Matt (Rob), along with her six grandchildren; Allison, Monica, Katie, Jason, Hannah, and Brian.
Additionally, she is survived by her brother Jerry Peterka (Beverly). She is preceded in death by her parents along with her husband Jim and her brother Roger.
Elaine wore many hats through her 90+ years; she was a stewardess for TWA airlines, and an Executive Administrator for a manufacturing company for many years.
Elaine had many loves, beginning with her love of family and hosting gatherings at her home, which her family fondly called “the Hub.” She and her husband Jim hosted Grandma/Grandpa camps for their grandchildren for a week every summer. They also had many notable New Year’s Eve parties, Progressive Dinners, picnics and cocktail parties with neighbors and lifelong friends.
Traveling and music were two of Elaine's special passions. As a teenager, her love of music led her to join the CYO band, where she met a fellow trumpet player who would become her husband. She enjoyed international travel, cruises and day trips with family, neighbors, and friends.
She took pride in her gardening and was among the first members of the Hawthorn Garden Club and remained active until recently. She was also very involved in her church and continued her love of creating beautiful flower arrangements as a member of the committee decorating the church as well as being a member of the bell choir.
She had a great sense of humor and was incredibly kind. She befriended anyone who met her, either at work, through her hobbies or even just standing in the grocery line! She never met a person she didn’t like or didn’t like her.
