Kip was born in Lewiston, ME on October 4, 1935 a son of the late George A. and Irma (Davis) Littlefield. He grew up in Bowdoin and attended Bowdoin schools and Lisbon High School. Graduated from Concord HS in NH 1957. He was then drafted into the Coast Guard. He attended Vocational school in Manchester for Art, apprenticed for Joe Spain Sign Co. in Concord at the same time.
Clifford loved music, art, animals, and especially his family. Spent many weekends and holidays in Bowdoin surrounded by parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. He was known for his Border Collie collection in memory of his Kellies. (He had 2 different Kelly Dogs). He played 1st trumpet in the Coast Marching Band, jazz quartet airing out of Canada. His favorite artist was Louis Armstrong.
Kip enjoyed watching boxing; and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball and team, the Green Bay Packers football team and collected many memorabilia items. He had a vast collection of all things’ Cardinals’.
Kip had amazing natural talent for the arts and specialized in all aspects of sign painting. He was known for his work in Maine, NH and VT where he designed many logos and layouts for companies large and small. His work also led him to grocery store art design in the 60’s and 70’s.
He was a silk screener, pinstripes, air brush and gold leaf artist. A layout and design artist and won many art competitions for his work on motorcycles and race cars. He worked in all sorts of media from Styrofoam to acrylic to wood to metal board. Kip was a great cartoonist adding fun into his lettering and practiced hours at night to perfect his skill. Some of his cartoons were featured in the magazine Playboy, in the 1970’s.
Later in life Kip began exploring photography and photographed beautiful garden and landscape scenes.
Kip is survived by his former wife and mother of his children Naomi Harriman and his children Janet Smith and her husband David of Norway, ME, John Littlefield and his wife Janet of Portland and Brenda Littlefield of Windham. He also leaves his siblings Caroline Williams of Portland, George E Littlefield and his wife Susan of Topsham and Lorraine Williams of Bowdoinham as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Arnold Littlefield.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 20 2024, starting at 12 pm with a service at 1 pm at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner Street, Auburn. Burial will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2 pm at Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord, NH.
