Sofia Limone (nee Botta), 93, of Elizabeth, N.J., passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2020. She was surrounded by her loving family. Sofia was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years Giovanni on May 11, 2020. Born in Naples, Italy to the late Giuseppe and Maria Botta. She emigrated to the United States in 1970 with her husband and four young daughters. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Matriarch of the family, Sofia convinced her husband to leave the only country they knew to provide a better life for their young family. Arriving to the United States they settled in Elizabeth where she resided for the last 50 years. One of Sofia’s proudest moments is when she and her family became U.S. Citizens.
Sofia loved to cook, watch the Price is Right, vacationing and going to Atlantic City to play the slots. She was the happiest when surrounded by her family, but her ultimate joy was caring for her grandchildren. She never missed any of their events. Sunday’s was her favorite day of the week, her entire family gathering around the dinner table for hours enjoying one of her delicious meals. Her specialties included homemade bread, meatballs, sausage, and her famous Sunday Sauce.
As a young woman in Italy, Sofia worked alongside her sister in-law as a Seamstress were, they specialized in making wedding dresses. When her family came along, she left her job to become a homemaker. When moving to the United States her number one priority was caring for her family but she never lost her love of sewing. She took pride in making clothing for her children and close friends.
Sofia is survived by her four loving and devoted daughters, Concetta (Tina) Limone-Keller, Maria Sofia Limone, Assunta (Sue) Limone, Anna Limone-Lombardi and her son Christopher Keller; her grandchildren, Christopher Giovanni Keller and his wife Stephanie, Nikolas Sebastian Keller, Samantha Ann Lombardi and Marcello Antonio Limone. She is also survived by her sister Immaculata Prisco, her Sister in-law Rita Limone and numerous nieces, nephews both in the US and Italy. She is predeceased by her sister Anna and her brother Salvatore.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Sunday November 22, 2020, from 5-9 pm and Monday November 23, 2020 at 9 am at Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, Linden, NJ. A funeral mass to follow at 10:30 am at St. Theresa’s Church in Kenilworth, N.J. Face coverings are required. Interment at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
