Verne Wesley Wilson, 94, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 4, 2019, at the Hillcrest Firethorn Rehabilitation Facility, surrounded by his loving caregivers and family. Born to James C. and Hazel E. Wilson, the 6th child of 10 children, he was educated in Lincoln Public Schools, graduating from Lincoln High School, and has lived his entire life in Lincoln, Nebraska.
After receiving Jesus Christ early in life as his Lord and Savior, Verne served as a Deacon in church and joyfully sang in church choir which enabled him to be a very passionate man who enjoyed life, loved God and his family. Verne worked nearly 50 years of dedicated service to his beloved Boomers Printing Company, entering in as a result of the placement service at Lincoln High School, where he worked as a Typesetter/Binder. In his spare time he enjoyed taking care of his home, fixing his cars, and helping others in any way that he could.
Verne leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Betty of 59 years, Sons Chauncey Blakely, Wesley Wilson (Coleen), Steven Wilson, James Wilson all of Lincoln; Daughters Margie Lee Wilson, Tisha Marie Wilson of Lincoln, Betty Marie Butler (Steve) of Augusta, Georgia. Loving Sisters Hazel L. Anderson of Lincoln, Betty J. Peterson of Denver, Colorado, Mary E. Wilson of Oakland, California; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents James C. and Hazel E. Wilson, Sisters Helen, Mildred, Nellie. Brothers James, Ernest, Ralph, Daughter Lois Lockman, Son Verne W. Wilson, Jr., Grandson Steven E. Butler, Jr.
Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 6700 S 14th, Lincoln.
