Val D. Swanson, age 71 of Lincoln, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Born in Albany, NY to Charles and Roma (Way) Swanson. Val was raised and grew up in Lyons, NE, graduating from Lyon High School. He was a member of Southwood Lutheran Church, a veteran of the US Navy and was a longtime volunteer at the Gathering Place and Matt Talbot Kitchen. For over 25 years, he owned and operated Val – U - Autos on West O St. in Lincoln. Preceded in death by his parents, step-father Walter Going; sister Sandra Rasmussen, brother Charles “Chuck” Swanson. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet; children Steven (Tomoko) Swanson, Dr. Jeffrey (Kirsten) Swanson, Lisa (Craig) Swan; grandchildren Shea, Brin, Luke and Abigail; brother William Ray Going; brother-in-law David Rasmussen; sister-in-law Susan Swanson.
