was born on June 8, 1931, in Hallam, NE, to August and Ella (Ostherthun) Messman, the 5th of
7 children. She was united in marriage to Floyd C. Dewey on November 19, 1949. To this
union three sons (Rodney, Randall, and Ricky) and one daughter (Roxanne) were born. Floyd
and June also raised their grandson, Shawn Dewey, as a son.
June most enjoyed spending time with family. Whether camping, shopping, listening to Randy
play in bands, attending her grandchildren’s school programs, or holiday decorating, it was all
about family. She had amazing flower gardens and enjoyed crafting. In recent years, June kept
her mind sharp by coloring and doing jigsaw puzzles. She was known to many through the
various jobs she held over the years including Russell Stover Candies, Goodyear Tire and
Rubber Co., Ben Franklin (Crete), volunteering as a cook at St. James School (Crete), Crafts by
Dewey’s and babysitting. She was a past president of the VFW Auxiliary (Crete) and a former
Sunday School teacher at the Congregational United Church of Christ (Hallam).
June was a great cook and will be remembered by her family for her famous potato salad,
dressing with raisins, and Watergate salad (affectionately know as The Green Stuff). She loved
Christmas and as the family grew, she started a tradition of “Sock Night” where the family got
together to open the gifts from their stockings at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.
June is survived by her children: Rodney Dewey - Crete, Randall Dewey - Wilber, Ricky Dewey
(Ronita) - Crete, and Roxanne Bischof (Mike) - Lincoln. Grandchildren: Kristina Dewey - Clatonia, Sarah Roth (Bryant) - Clatonia, Tracy Crites (Zane) -Springfield, MO, Shawn Dewey (Crystal) - Swanton, Eric Dewey (Blythe) - Crete, Ryan Dewey - Crete, Patrick Dewey (Megan) - Wilber, Derek Dewey - Hallam, Michael Dewey (Sara) - Stanton, Grady Bischof - Lincoln, and Cameron Bischof - Lincoln. Great-grandchildren: Katlynn, Cooper, McKenna, Jameson, Milo, Lincoln, Lily, Gwendolyn, Eric Jr., Heath, Harlow, Petra, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Asher, Ignatia and Owen. June was excited to know more greatgrandchildren are on the way. Brother: Dick Messman (Loretta) - Lincoln and Tom Messman
(Dorothy) - Crete. Numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd, daughter-in-law, Marie, grandson, Jeffrey, brothers, sister-in-law Harold (Virginia) Messman and Dale Messman, sisters, brothers in-law Wilma Kahle (Harry) and Lois Grantski (Ralph).
