Leo Ora Carr, 88 of Lincoln, Nebraska, beloved husband of Doloris (Sudman) for 68 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep with family close by November 16, 2018. Leo was born in Union, NE in February 27, 1930 living outside of town at the filling station and home his dad built. Moving to Avoca, NE in 1940 and graduated from Avoca High School 1948 where he excelled in sports (Track, Softball, and Basketball). He enlisted in the Air Force October 11, 1948 where he served for 1 year. Promoted to Corporal July 1949 then released from Active duty October 1949. He then joined the Reserves in April 1950. Worked for the Missouri Pacific RR then for Chicago Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) railroad at the Havelock Shops, Lincoln, NE August, 1950. Leo was ordered to active duty February 1951 during the Korean Crisis. He was promoted to Sargent May 1951 then Staff Sargent January 1952. Released from active duty August 1952 then worked for CB&Q again which changed to Burlington Northern after the merger of Northern Pacific & Great Northern RR. He remained in the reserves until his Honorable discharge October 1955. After 42 years of working with the railroad he retired in February, 1992. Starting many years earlier he worked 38 years part time with the University of Nebraska athletic events in concession, ushering, ticket taking and press box. He was an avid hockey fan, Royal’s baseball fan, and Husker football, basketball, and volleyball fan. During his spare time he enjoyed being with his family and friends, volunteering and serving his church at Northeast UCC. He was involved in his children’s sporting activities and coaching Little Chiefs Baseball. He enjoyed the Outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting, golfing, softball, taking walks, and shooting hoops on the driveway.
He was a dedicated exerciser who religiously followed his physical therapy orders. He is preceded in death by his son Steven and parents Albert and Zella (Ziegenhain) Carr. Leo is survived by his wife, Doloris of Lincoln, son; Bruce (Ron Longo) of Pismo Beach, CA, daughter; Diann (Thomas) McLaury of Kansas City, MO, daughter-in-law Ruth (Manglitz) Carr of Aurora, CO. Leo has 8 grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan), Angella, Megan (Rick), Devon, Madison, Morgan, John Leo, Sydney, and 2 great grandchildren, Tanner and Brinley. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are being accepted in Leo’s name to Northeast United Church of Christ, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and American Cancer Fund.
