Kathleen Elizabeth Kennel Green, 92, passed away August 22nd at Bryan East Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. Kathleen was born November 5, 1921 in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska to Christian Kennel and Elizabeth Ernst. She was one of ten children, including three boys, Ervin, Lavern and Harold and seven daughters, Iva, Birdean, Thelma, Aletta, Marguerite, Kathleen and Dorothy. Kathleen was raised on the family farm and graduated from Beaver Crossing High School. She taught school for a short time at the Wishing Well School. On January 31, 1942, she married Herbert Wayne Green in Papillion, Nebraska. On his return from World War II, they moved to Lincoln and then to Burwell, Nebraska. They eventually returned to Lincoln where they remained until their deaths. Born a Mennonite, Kathleen later joined the Methodist Church and remained a lifelong Christian. During her life she worked various jobs, including as a domestic, candy dipper at Russell Stover Candies and in retail sales, ending her working career at Miller & Paine at Gateway. Her retirement years included providing many family dinners, babysitting grandchildren and hosting the family's annual Christmas Eve celebration. After Wayne's death in 1997, she continued to live independently at her home for a number of years before moving to Country House II, where she resided until her death. Surviving family members include daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Rick Michaelsen, Pam and Craig Wagner, and daughter, Barbara Addison, all of Lincoln. Also, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, siblings, spouse and granddaughter, Catherine Ann Wagner. Visitation on Tuesday August 26, from 6 until 8 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home , with funeral service Wednesday, August 27th at 3 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed in care of the family.
