Joseph was born on July 13, 1937, in Jacksonville, FL, to Alice Elizabeth Brown and Joseph D. Anderson, Sr. His mother died shortly after he was born. God, in his infinite wisdom and overwhelming goodness, blessed him with another loving mother, Annette Parker Anderson, whom he adored.
Joseph attended Sullivan Street Elementary School in Greenville, SC. Upon moving to Greensboro, NC, at 12 years of age, he met the love of his life, Alice Elizabeth Haith. Joseph attended Dudley High School.
He attended Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, where he studied for the ministry. While there, he was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1960. He served in Korea1960-1961, Walter Reed Medical Center, Washington, DC, 1961-1962, where he completed nursing school. In 1962 He married Alice Elizabeth Haith. They lived in Ft. Dix, NJ, from 1962-1965. He was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, and the 9th Medical Detachment in Heilbronn, Germany, from 1965-1968. He went to Vietnam from 1968-1969.
From 1969-1974 he was in Denver, CO, at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital. While at Fitzsimmons, he was chosen to work on the Sky Lab Project (Apollo Space Program). From there, he went back to Stuttgart, Germany from 1974-1978. While in Germany, he pastored at Pattonville Chapel. His last duty station was Ft. Hood, TX, from 1978-1980. After 20 years in the U. S. Army, he retired with an honorable discharge. After retiring, in 1980, he moved to Lincoln, NE, to be near his parents. Joseph worked for 20 years at the University of Nebraska Lincoln at the University health center and clinic. He was an avid speaker in the community, holding “no smoking clinics” and other health initiatives. While in the service, he was awarded a bronze star medal, meritorious service award, and good conduct medals and awards.
Joseph was a very active member of Allon Chapel Church. He held positions as a first elder, superintendent, Sabbath school teacher, elder, and decorator for weddings and other events. In addition, he conducted Bible studies and was a prayer warrior. He loved to talk to anyone about the love of God.
Joseph was a devoted and loving brother, husband, and father. He departed this life on January 12, 2023. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Alice Elizabeth (Haith) Anderson, his sister Shirley (Anderson) Price, and his grandson Jerod Lyons. He is survived by his devoted children, Veronique Lynnette Anderson, Joseph Daniel Anderson III (Esther), Joseph Daniel Unser, Cedric Bernard Anderson (Tanya), Elizabeth (Webster) Anderson, and Lori Lyons; His grandchildren Jacquelyn Luby, Alisa (Luby) Degraw (Tyler), Briana Boyd, Daniel J Anderson, Brandon J Anderson, Jasmine Hoffman, Logan Anderson, Trae Anderson, Carlacy Anderson, Joey Unser, Sydney Unser, and Briar Anderson; his great-grandchildren Kailyn Luby, Roman Sessions, Aiyden Scott, Austiyn Scott, Jemma Degraw, Ginger Spencer, Myah Jones, Kaison Jones, Xander Jones; his siblings Ralph Price, Gloria Bethea, James & Gwen (Anderson) Merideth, Frederick & Marla Anderson, Leroy & Ruth (Anderson) Reese, Ronald & Deria (Anderson) Gadsden, Gene & Patrice (Anderson) Franklin, James & Catherine (Anderson) Killebrew, Nathan & Robbin (Anderson) Lewis, Ross & Elizabeth Haith, Naomi (Haith) Stewart, Ann (Haith) Rico, and Earl & Salome Haith. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
