Jack Roper, 92 of Lincoln passed away October 25, 2014. Jack D. Roper was born April 3, 1922 to Harry and Florence (Armstrong) Roper at Lincoln, NE. Jack was united in marriage to Sylvia Mills on December 31, 1953 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Jack was a World War II veteran, proudly serving in the US Navy. He loved sports of all kinds, especially golf and Nebraska football. He was a member of VFW Post 3606 and DAV. Jack is survived by his wife, Sylvia Roper; children, Steve Roper and Deborah (Kelly) Blacketer; grandchildren, Trish Dickenson; Shawna (Brian) Carlson; Richard Sr. (Tina) Carney and Aaron Carney; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gayle Roper. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter in law, Esther Roper; sisters, Betty Jo and Marge and a brother, Dwight Roper. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be at 12:30 PM on Thursday October 30, 2014 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials in Jack’s memory may be directed to VFW Post 3606 or to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.
