Chuck was born Dec 13th, 1934 to Noel L & Helen R Smith in Omaha, NE. Growing up Chuck moved around to Kansas, Iowa & other towns in Nebraska before they settled in Lincoln. Graduate of Lincoln High school in 1952. After high school Chuck attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln & LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
In 1964, he began his career with the City of Lincoln Wastewater Treatment plant as an Accounting Clerk. He worked for the City for 38 years until he retired in 2002.
Chuck met his wife Judith E. Smith in January of 1968, playing volleyball for a Single Adult Group at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Chuck & Judy were married on November 30th, 1969.
Following his father’s footsteps, Chuck joined the Sesostris Temple in 1991. Initiated into the Craftsmen Lodge #314 of Lincoln, Nebraska in 1992. Both in which he became a life time member. Chuck also was a member of The Cornhusker Kiwanis Club since 1991.
Chuck’s love for sports, especially the “Huskers” was always present. After he retired he would take tickets at UNL football games & at the Lincoln Salt Dog baseball games. You could always catch Chuck with a Nebraska hat on or in some form of Husker gear.
Later in life Chuck loved to play cribbage. If you didn’t know how to play, with patience and grace, Chuck, would teach anyone who would be willing to learn. Regular bingo player at Henderson Healthcare & loved to color pictures, especially for his grandson Cole. Chocolate candy & jolly ranchers could always be found in his pockets. Chuck always remembered everyone’s name. Was always excited to see someone he knew!
Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Judy of Sutton, NE, and his daughter, Donna (Ky) Ragsdale and grandson, Cole Ragsdale of Fishers IN; brother-in-law Richard (Vera) Ellison of Geneva, NE; sister-in-law, Nancy (Galen) Domling, of Fairmont, NE; sister-in-law, Virginia Carlson of Sutton, NE; 9 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Visitation viewing will be Thursday, Aug 23rd from 4-8pm, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska, 68512.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday Aug 24th at 3pm, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, NE, 68512. There will be light refreshments immediately following the interment.
