Carol Higgins Baldwin died September 5 in Lincoln at age 88. Born in Lincoln to Dean and Oleta Gunn Higgins. Childhood spent in Tecumseh, Ravenna, and Broken Bow. A graduate of Broken Bow High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and a Master of Science in Education from Chadron State College. She was united in marriage to Jerry D. Baldwin in 1951; First Lieutenant Baldwin, USAF, was lost in action over Korea in 1953. Carol worked for Continental Airlines, Denver, Colorado, and the Denver and Chadron (NE) Public Schools. She taught at the Hay Springs (NE) and Chappell (NE) Public Schools, and the Department of Defense Overseas School at Seoul, South Korea. Her later years were spent in Ogallala, Beatrice, and Lincoln. She was a PEO sister of Chapter Z, Beatrice. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John (Jack) Higgins. Survivors include nieces Ann Stoeger, Riverton, WY; Sue Riley, Jones, OK; Gwen Currier, Riverton, WY; nephew Scott Higgins, Noble, OK, and Higgins and Gunn cousins.
