Michael Lew Field

Born September 15, 1936 to Stephen and Lina Field, Mike started his adventurous life in Omaha, Nebraska with a one-room elementary school house and plenty of opportunities for mischief.

He earned his Bachelors at University of Omaha and then attended the University of Nebraska, College of Medicine for his medical degree (hence becoming a lifelong Nebraska college football fan).

After moving to Sacramento for his residency, Mike and Betty met and fell in love. Quite romantic, they married in Japan on April 10th, 1967 and honeymooned there while Mike was stationed with the Navy. Mike managed a Marine Dispensary for a year in Okinawa, Japan. He came back to the states and was stationed for a year as the head of the medical department at Skaggs Island Naval Station and was able to live with Betty on the base.

Upon finishing his naval service, he set up practice in Roseville with Oakridge Medical Group where he worked the majority of his 35 years in family practice. Mike and Betty settled briefly in Rocklin, CA before making their move to the rural life in Loomis, CA where they lived for 42 years and raised their 3 children. Only a few years ago they moved to a lovely spot in Lincoln with peaceful views and a nice easy yard.

Mike was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: medical profession, high school athlete and debater, sports fan, fisherman, photographer, audiophile, and jazz lover.

He will be remembered for all the colorful stories and the abundant “dad jokes” he shared with his much loved friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Field, his sister Karen Stageman, and his 3 children and their families; Kim, Rich, Heather, Darren and Jane and his 4 beloved grandchildren Nicholas, Luke, Maddie, and Parker. A celebration of his life will be planned this winter with details still to be determined.
