Jim was born to James E. Flanagan & Norma Ferrari Flanagan on 1/23/1937 and raised in San Francisco. He started his military career by joining ROTC while attending Saint Ignatius High School. After graduation, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service for a time and Bell Telephone (AT&T). During this time, he met Margo Forquer through mutual friends in San Francisco. In 1957 during his active military service, he was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA and taught telemetry. He and Margo married in 1958. They returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1959 where they raised 4 children in Burlingame. Jim continued working for Bell Telephone (AT&T) until his retirement in 1997. Jim & Margo moved to Twain Harte to enjoy retirement, Manteca, and then lastly to Lincoln where they have been for the last 6 years.
Jim was an avid fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman, reader & gardener. He was always a friendly guy with a good word for those he talked with. He was a gifted encourager and had a charismatic personality.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Margo, sister Cezanne Tocchini, children Mike (Sandy) Flanagan, Patrick Flanagan, Theresa (Dennis) Connolly, Aileen (Tim) Winstead, grandchildren Sean (Justine) Flanagan, Dominic (Mari) Flanagan, Patrick (Ashley) Flanagan, Sarah (Stuart) Knechtle, Timothy (Emily) Flanagan, Caitie (Greg) Connolly, Michael Connolly, Jacob Winstead, Dylan Winstead, 15 great grandchildren and numerous cherished friends & family. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Gina Flanagan.
Jim will be greatly missed for the storyteller & historian everyone came to love.
