We were lucky to have Frieda -- our Mother, our Mother-In-Law, our Grandmother, our Aunt, our Cousin and our friend, for almost 97 years. She was quietly strong with a keen sense of humor, a big personality and was devoted to her family. She was a loving, caring, supportive and generous Mom to son Greg, daughter-in-law Kristen, daughter Rhonda and was especially proud of Grandkids Cole and Kayla. After our birthday lunch on Mar 7 this year at Highhand Nursery, she said she thought Cole and Kayla had grown up to be thoughtful beautiful kids who seem to enjoy being with family. Her happiest days were the days she kept Cole and Kayla when they were babies. She loved spending time with Rhonda and her husband Robert, who passed in 2003, and continued to enjoy being Grandma to his son Scott and daughter Sandy and Great Grandma to Robyn and Lisa. She commented over and over how happy she was that all the Theuer and Daniels family were together for Christmas this year. Even though they live in Pittsburg PA and she didn’t get to see them often, they were never far from her heart and we always had fun together.
Frieda was close with her parents, Perry and Maude, her brother Bernie and sister Reba so we were lucky to grow up with the love and support of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was married to Lowell for 47 years until his passing in 2004. She loved his family and they equally loved her in return. We all remember the Daniels house in San Mateo and the many fun times and celebrations hosted by Frieda – Easters, Christmases and family parties. She was a trailblazer for women in business becoming a Director of Personnel at an electronic firm in the 1950’s. She spoke often of being the only woman in management at that company and how the men stood when she entered the room. That’s how long ago that was! After leaving the electronic firm, she worked for the San Mateo School District until she retired at age 62. After Lowell passed in 2004, she moved with Rhonda to Lincoln to be close to Greg and family. It was a good move as her later years were filled with family outings, the casino, the theater and lots of parties and activities with Lincoln Hills friends. She became Momma Frieda to her neighborhood “girls” who always included her in every activity and gave her lots of loving attention. And she traveled --in the last 15 years she slept in castles in Ireland, stood under the Big Ben in London, dined in the rain on the Ramblos Barcelona, ate lunch on the Seine River in Paris, toured the Vatican in Rome, paddled through the canals of Amsterdam, listened to Little Jimmy Dickens at the Grand Ole Opry and took pictures on the steps of Air Force One at the Reagan Museum.
Our stunning elegant Frieda set an example for all of us to follow into our later years. She never gave in to being “old” – always fastidious about her dress, hair and makeup and did her best to remain young at heart. At 96, she was often told that she looked and acted 70. She was a beautiful human being inside and out who we will love and miss forever! You and Lowell are together again. Godspeed Momma!
