LeRoy “Buck” H. Siefer, 65, of Lima, died at 6:26 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1946, in Lima, to Harry and Helen (Michel) Siefer who preceded him in death. On Feb. 12, 1971, he married Judith A. Martino who survives.
Mr. Siefer had been a salesman for Tom Ahl’s. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, a life member of V.F.W. Post 9648, Columbus Grove and was the first president of the Elida V.F.W. He was an active member of C.A.I.O. and was willing to go the extra mile to help family, friend or stranger. He loved to garden and tinker around his home, be a handyman, be with his family and tell a good joke.
Also surviving are three children: Angela (Scott) Merrill of Columbus, Victoria (Cory) Mouser of Cartersville, GA and Anthony (Adela) Siefer of Columbus; six grandchildren: Darien Ann, Jonah David, Tess Catherine, Keegen Michael, Josephine Ann and Griffin Michael; ten siblings: Jean Barnes, Betty (Marvin) Ross, Marilyn Coombs, Gerald Siefer, Barbara (Ed) Alexander, Norbert (Mary Kay) Siefer, Keith Siefer, Greg Siefer, Mary Bishop and Rose (Ed) Sowers; four in-laws: Francie (Bob) Simrak, Pam (John) Flatter, Karen Martino and Joe (Deb) Martino, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Jim Szobonya officiating, with military rites conducted by V.F.W Post 9648. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be on Saturday, from 4-6 p.m., and Sunday, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, where a Parish Wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
