Irene J. Warniment, 92, of Lima, passed away peacefully at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Baton Rouge Senior Health Center. She was born January 10, 1922 in Putnam County, Ohio to Albert and Monica (Roof) Okuley who preceded her in death. On September 28, 1940 she married Paul B. Warniment, who died on May 23, 1989.
Irene is survived by her eight children, Daniel Warniment of Flagstaff, AZ, Teresa (Rich Guarriello) Warniment of Colorado Springs, CO, David (Katherine) Warniment of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Ann (Bob Osborn) Warniment of Biloxi, MS, Ed (Deb) Warniment of Tipp City, OH, Donna (David) Gratz, Barb (Joe) Halter and Beth Warniment all of Lima. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and her siblings, Edna Giesige of Holgate,OH, Marie Hale of Wauseon,OH Marjorie Brown of Walled Lake, MI, and Nelson Okuley of Ayersville, OH.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Mosler and Adeline Gordon, her brothers Marcus and Clarence Okuley and a grandson, Aaron Gratz.
Irene was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church of Lima. She was employed by Nickles Bakery in the packing department for over 15 years She bowled in the same bowling league for over 50 years and was 89 ½ when she bowled her last game. She was a volunteer for Johnny Appleseed Park monitoring the bluebird houses. She also was a volunteer for Special Olympics and bowling program through Marimor. She loved playing bingo and cards, and every visitor was encouraged to play Dominos. She loved traveling throughout the United States and Europe to visit with family, and went on many Senior Citizen trips. Irene’s favorite activity was spending time at her cottage at Rose Lake (Lake of the Woods) in Michigan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, Lima, with Father Dave Ross, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery near North Creek, Ohio.
Family and friends may call Sunday, May 4 from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. at SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m.
