He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Liberty for many years and served as a volunteer fireman with the Liberty Fire Department for over 20 years. Oscar enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and visiting with friends who were shut in.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Liberty, NC officiated by Rev. Jason Boggs. He will lie in repose on Friday, September 4, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty.
He was the son of the late Oscar J'Hugh, Sr. and Maude Wall King and was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Coward King; sisters, Marjorie King Routh, Margaret King Merrill; and brother, Robert Glenn King.
He is survived by his daughter, Anne King McFadyen and husband, George; sons, Larry Hugh King and wife, Linda and William Preston "Pres" King and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Michael King, Mitchell King, Scott McFadyen, John McFadyen, Eric King and Maddie King; great-grandchildren, Murphy King, Georgia King, Sydney King, Savannah King, Colin McFadyen, and Duncan McFadyen.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to his "adopted daughter" Tracey King who helped both Oscar and Doris in their later years. They would also like to thank the staff of Woodland Hill Center in Asheboro for their compassionate care.
