She was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Alamance County, North Carolina to Mannie and Opal (Branson) Graves.
She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” A. Coble along with five children, Teresa (Steve) Sutherland, Salem, Virginia, Jeff (Terre) Coble, Goshen, Keith Coble, Liberty, North Carolina, Rodney (Jami) Coble, Goshen, and Sandy (LaVon) Gray, Burlington, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, Micah (Christian) Jasper, Greensboro, North Carolina, Bethany (John) Loy, Burlington, North Carolina, Nathan (Anna) Jasper, McLeansville, North Carolina, Seth Coble, Dallas, Texas, Casey Coble, Arlington, Texas, Tucker Coble, Dallas, Texas, Wesley Coble, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Adriana Berger, Korey Knisley and Kerby Coble, all of Goshen, Mikayla (Tim) Gray, Burlington, North Carolina, Robyn (Chris) Thompson, Carmel, Indiana and Jesse (Jana) Gray, Colorado Springs, Colorado; 14 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Nancy Lee Graves and Lora Ann (Buren) Jones, both of Snow Camp, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Lou was born and raised in Alamance County where she graduated from E.M. Holt School. She and Jim were members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where they were married Sept. 4, 1960 and remained married for 61 years.
Mary Lou graduated from Wake Nursing School in 1960 and worked as a registered nurse at Alamance County Hospital and Burlington Memorial Hospital.
Soon after they were married, they moved and continued moving for many years until they settled in Goshen, Indiana in 1983, where they were charter members of Maple City Baptist Church. While living in Burlington from 1978-81, she was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church.
Mary Lou was a longtime Sunday School teacher and leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She was a woman of great faith and passed that along to her children.
Funeral and burial will be Wednesday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 3966 West Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Liberty, North Carolina with Rev. Andy Clapp officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Samaritan’s Purse, Goshen Hospital Chaplains Fund or Billy Graham Association.
