Mark was a very special person to countless family, friends & patients. He started at Liberty Hospital a couple months after I did. We became fast friends.  He was my mentor. He trusted & respected others & approached work as a collaborative practice. 
I have many wonderful memories of him....he was so proud of Molly & Alice,  he was King of  July 4th celebrations,  grilled steak to perfection & had a funny little giggle.  He was a genius diagnostician & a master of the Art of medicine. 
He was like a brother to me- he taught me good & bad things, we laughed & cried together and he is gone too soon.

I was working at Liberty Hospital when Dr, Schroeder came ..  what a Blessing he was to all of us!  I watched  him with his patients and took notice how kind he was especially to the elderly patients, I knew he was the Dr. I wanted.  I had been going to him for a few years when my Mom moved  to Lawson, I referred her to Mark, and she loved him.  A few years later her health was going downhill, Dr. Schroeder did what he could and referred her to Heart Dr.s. She eventually got to come back to Dr. Schroeder (he called her Mom) and took care of her till she passed away.  I was having trouble getting the grief out and Mark knew just what was wrong, so on a office visit he sat me down and said “We’re going to talk about Mom”. He handed me a box of kleenex and that was all it took!  We both did some grieving that day!  What a gift he was to all!!  You will be missed Dr. Schroeder!

I  just found out today about Mark's passing  and I'm so sorry for your loss.  I really enjoyed working with him at Belton PRN while still teaching at Penn Valley.  On one of our first encounters he asked me if I remembered a former student, "Rhonda." He told me that you were dating, then eventually you got married in Hawaii. This brought a huge smile on his face and seemed so happy!  I'm very sad that he is gone, but definitely NOT forgotten. We've lost a good one.

We just learned of Dr. Schroeder's passing and our hearts are sad he is gone,but oh so happy we had him for a Dr.for many years. He was so kind and caring and we doubt we will ever have a Dr. who was both professional and who we cared about and loved. Dr.Schroeder you were the BEST Dr.  and a wonderful person!!

Mark was a special man.  I worked in the ER when he practiced in Liberty.  I also got to stay with his girls when they traveled a couple of times and really enjoyed that.  Alice and Molly were sweet little girls.  Several of my friends used Mark as their doctor and loved him.  Sad to hear of his passing at such a young age.  Blessings on his family left behind.

I met Dr. Schroeder 20 years ago.  A lawyer I knew encouraged me to take my 90 year old mother to see Dr. Schroeder as we were having problems with her then current doctors.  I had asked her doctor at that time if she could be put on Hospice and he laughed at me and said no way would he say that my mother could possibly pass away in the next 6 months. I was shocked and very upset.    He saw my mother and asked to visit with her privately before calling me into his office. He agreed with my mother and myself that she should be a  candidate for Hospice. He took care of setting things up for me.  My mother only lived 3 more weeks. I've always said that Dr. Schroeder let my mother die with dignity and I will always remember that. I  switched to him as my doctor. He was always kind, considerate, genuinely interested in my health. He actually took time with patients and you would never feel rushed. He was the most compassionate person and doctor I have ever met. I've always felt a kinship with him as my maiden name is Schroeder. I'm deeply saddened by his passing. There will never be another man like him. I extend my sympathy and prayers to his daughters and entire family. May you always have many fond memories of him.     

The year was 1984 when I was seeking someone to be my personal physician  and asked my friend and neighbor who was a nurse at Liberty Hospital for her recommendation. She suggested Dr. Schroeder. I was impressed with him from the beginning and told him on my first visit that I was seeking a doctor who would out-live me.  That didn’t happen, I’m now 87, but he kept me on the right track till a letter arrived in the mail that he was closing his private practice to become a hospitalist.   That was a great personal disappointment.   It took a while, but I again feel secure in the care of another, never forgetting and always wondering about Dr. Schroeder. He once told me he owned  some undeveloped property in the north Missouri county where I grew up that was his retreat for rest and solitude. You served humanity well for 62 years. Peace be with you, my good doctor...gone too soon. 

In December of 1983, we were so blessed that Dr. Schroeder had come to Liberty Hospital earlier that month.  Gary's stomach had ruptured and he was near death when surgery was finally performed.  As soon as surgery was over, they turned his care over to Mark.  Probably wanted him to die on the "new kids" watch.  We are, to this day, so very grateful that Mark refused to let him die.  He was there day and night checking on him in ICU.  He sent us to the Heart Institute at St. Luke's after about 2 weeks with a staff infection on his aorta valve.   The next year was spent in and out of the hospital, but he survived and we became lasting friends with Mark.  He was our physician until he became a hospitalist. What a wonderful, caring and thorough physician.  We are so saddened by his sudden death.  May God bless and comfort his family and many friends.  A light has definitely gone out in this world, but is shining brightly in the next!


Dr Schroeder was the best doctor ever.  My husband needed a kidney transplant, and Mark was with him until the transplant team took over.    He hired and fired some of Kens doctors because they were not doing a good job.   My husband (Ken) and Mark formed a special bond,  they were both doctors and had the utmost respect for each other.     I will never forget him,  I went looking for him thinking maybe he left being a hospitalist and back in private practice.     Sure did not expect this......    I'm so sad for his family...it was nice to see he got married again.      He was a very special human being,    one of Gods finest.   He was taken from us way too soon.



My Dad was diagnosed with colon cancer and was in a small town hospital. He needed surgery immediately to remove the cancer. We found a surgeon at Liberty willing to do the surgery, but he could not admit Dad. I "knew" Mark through my step children but was not friends with him. I asked out of desperation if he would be willing to take Dad on as a patient just for the time he was in the hospital, and he gladly did it. He was a very caring doctor. I am so sorry for your loss. 

Dr. Schroeder cared for my husband, Carl Harper, with the utmost compassion and diligence.  He went above and beyond to make sure that he left no stone unturned in his treatment and diagnosis.  Many an evening he stopped by our house on his way home to check on Carl and me.  He would sit on our deck and just be his encouraging, caring self.  He was a fine physician and a faithful friend. I met Dr Schroeder Easter Sunday in the Liberty Hospital emergency room after passing out during a training run. His diagnosis contradicted the treatment that I was receiving and the tests he ordered revealed that I had a large brain aneurysm, which was ready to burst. Had he not questioned the original diagnosis I would not be here today. 
I  considered Mark a friend and I am very saddened by his early death.  He truly left a positive impact on this earth and I hope that he finds peace & happiness in heaven. My sincere condolences

I worked at Liberty from 82 to 2016 as an RN in the ICU and ED.  I was there when Mark came on staff. He was the best diagnostician I ever worked with. He was a caring physician for his patients which included my family.  He has lest a lasting impression on everyone he touched.  

I am so sorry for your loss! I worked for Dr Schroeder in the early 2000’s. I lost touch with him when I moved out of the area.  He was great to work for and had a unique sense of humor!  He will be greatly missed!

I started as Mark's patient in the late 70's. Then we became friends, hunted geese together and fished as much as possible. I will miss him greatly. We loved racing. He sponsored my figure 8 car. We went to riverside and lakeside along with kansas speedway when it opened. We watched the races on the weekends during the season. We would go to the movies when time allowed. Rest in Peace my friend, 

Mark, you took care of my grandma with gentleness and care and took her to almost 101, you took care of my mom until she entered hospice care, you took care of my brother in law thru his cancer, making lots of home visits until he made the journey to Heaven, You took care of my sister, daughter and son and me, You helped us thru my husbands kidney issue until he entered dialysis, he did get his kidney transplant, you have taken care of most of the Tapp's and Neth's, You always treated us with respect and dignity. May you find all your friends in Heaven and have a ball.

Celebration of Life

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; two daughters, Molly and Alice; one stepdaughter, Tara (Chris) and their children, Gavin and Aniston; one stepson, Steven (Stacy) and their children, Kate and Austin and one brother, Eric (Mary Lou) and their children Megan and Brian. He was preceded in death by his parents.
