Jerry was born in Bucklin, Missouri to Raymond and Ruth (Jirmars) Head on May 14, 1939. He grew up in Bucklin and graduated from Bucklin High School. In 1961, he joined the Army and was deployed to Vietnam. While serving he was recognized with several awards and accolades, including a Good Conduct Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and a Letter of Commendation from the First Oak Leaf Cluster. He was honorably discharged as an Army Reservist in 1964.
Jerry worked in the trucking industry his entire life, both as an over-the-road driver and selling trucks for International Harvester/Navistar. In retirement, Jerry drove charter buses for church groups, athletic organizations, and scenic tours. Jerry enjoyed striking up conversations with his passengers and getting them to their destinations safely.
Jerry was a proud veteran and devoted volunteer. He served with the VFW and American Legion. At American Legion Post 95, he served on the Honor Guard and Color Guard, and held several offices including terms as Commander, Vice Commander, and Treasurer. As a member of Grace Baptist Church, Jerry acted as the resident handyman. If they needed something fixed or the lawn mowed, he was the man to call. Jerry also volunteered at Family Promise of the Northland as a bus driver, transporting families in need.
With his little free time, Jerry loved to tinker around his property and spend time with family. Jerry will be deeply missed by his church, his friends at the VFW and American Legion, and most of all his family.
