Earl Ellsworth Potter, 81, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, in Liberty, MO. Born on November 21, 1942, in Lathrop, MO to (James) Therald & Blanche Bea (Hatcher) Potter. Earl grew up in Turney, MO and graduated high school in 1960 from Plattsburg High School, Plattsburg MO.
After graduation, Earl proudly served in the Army for three years, including a memorable tour in Greece. His experiences overseas remained a fondly recounted aspect of his life. Following his military service, Earl married Karen Kay in 1963 and settled in Liberty, MO. Together Karen and Earl had one son, Michael. Earl dedicated 42 years to General Motors, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie. Earl's personal life was enriched by his hobbies which included fishing, mushroom hunting, coin collecting, enjoying family vacations, and the occasional thrill of gambling and buying lottery tickets. These activities reflected his love for life and the simple joys it offers.
Earl was known for his witty and easy-going nature, combined with a gentle soul and a heart full of kindness. He was a loving father to his son Michael Potter and his wife Gayle. Earl was also a cherished grandpa to Caitlyn Potter and Michael J. Potter, and his wife Megan. His brother, Allen Potter, and close family friend, Rachel Potter, along with several nieces and nephews, will also hold his memory dear. Earl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Kay Potter, his parents, (James) Therald and Bea Potter, and his brother, James Therald (JT) Potter Jr.
Services to honor Earl's life will be held at Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home, followed by interment at Fairview New Hope Cemetery, both located in Liberty, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. His legacy of laughter, kindness, and generosity will live on through his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
