Obituary of Walter "Walt" G. Zoellner Jr.
Walter “Walt” G. Zoellner Jr., 91, of College Corner, Ohio died Friday, July 19, 2024 at Whitewater Commons in Liberty. Walt was born on June 10, 1933 to Walter Sr. and Louise Fuchs Zoellner in Cincinnati, Ohio. He grew up on a farm and was the youngest of seven children. His loving sisters took care of him and lovingly referred to him as “Wally”. Being the only son, Walt spent most of his childhood working on the farm. This is where his passion for farming began. Walt graduated from Colerain High School in 1953, where he was class President. Shortly after high school, he was drafted in the United States Army just after the Korean War ended. Upon his honorable discharge, Walt returned to the farm as a dairyman until 1988 when a fire tragically struck his barn. He continued farming his land until he finally retired at the ripe age of 83. Walt married the former Debbie Toschlog in 1988. He enjoyed music and was an avid country concert attendee. Walt meticulously restored eight antique tractors over the years which he was very proud of. There was only one thing that meant more to Walt than farming, his family. He adored spending time with his family and drinking margaritas with them at his favorite Mexican restaurant. He will be missed by his family that love him dearly. Walt is survived by his wife of thirty-six years: Debbie; sons: Jeff Zoellner, Jim and Rachel Zoellner; step-son: Joe and Billie Elleman; step-daughter: Julie and John Garden; grandchildren: Sinead and Brad Squire, Ethan and Cassidy Zoellner, Seth Zoellner , Juliana Zoellner, Jaime Zoellner, Jenna Garden, and Joseph Garden; great-grandchildren: Brooks Squire, Saylor Squire; brother and sister-in-laws: Doug and Vicki Toschlog, Claudia Toschlog, David and Cindy Toschlog ; many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents, Walt is preceded in death by his daughter: Amy Wisby; granddaughter: Courtney Ballou; grandson: Jaydon Garden; great-grandson: Grady Winchester; brother and sister-in-laws: Mildred and Jack Benzing, Dorothy Zoellner, Ruth and Roy Hopper, Esther and Frank Hermes, Lavern and Ken Hartman, Joann and Mike Marzigliano. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Military Honors will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., at the funeral home, officiated by the Fayette County Honor Guard. Following the military honors, friends may visit until the time of service. Military Memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude’s Children research hospital or to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Walt’s honor.
