Robert George Schmidt, 87, died Monday, July 24, 2023 in Oxford.
Born May 19, 1936 in Camden, Ohio to Benjamin F. and Gladys W. (Davis) Schmidt. Bob lived his entire life in College Corner, Ohio and graduate from College Corner Union School in 1954. He had a love for softball and played much of his life, even as an “old timer” during the 4th of July festivities in College Corner for many years. Bob worked his farm until health issues prevented it. He was a mail carrier in College Corner for 39 and a half years, and was a proud holder of the Post Office Million Mile Award. Bob served 8 years in the Ohio National Guard.
He leaves behind his wife Bernice of 37 years; two step-sons: Daniel (Renee) Hayes of Kentucky, Harold (Susie) Cooper of Wilkinson, Indiana; two step-daughters: Cathy (Robert) Schutt of College Corner, Ohio, Carol (Richard) Adams of Camden, Ohio; Eleven grandchildren: Abby (Kyle) Byrd, Caitlin Hayes, Lindsey (Alex) Paczesny, Erin Madden, Seth Cooper, Katerina Schutt, Korban Schutt, Emily Cooper, Kyle Schutt, Chris Crews, and Leslie Crews; three-great children: Amelia Byrd, Benjamin Byrd, Max Paczesny.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin and Gladys Schmidt; brother: Gerald; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Per Bob’s wishes, there will be no services conducted. Showalter Blackwell Long, has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The College Corner Union School or College Corner Fire Department in Bob’s honor.
