Nancy Lou (LaMar) Huntington, age 80, of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois died peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Naperville, Illinois after a courageous battle with cancer.
A Union County native, she was born in Richmond, Indiana, the daughter of William and Helen (West) LaMar. She graduated from Short High School in 1962. She married Howard Shideler Huntington on August 10, 1968, in Liberty, Indiana. Survivors include husband of 55 years, Howard, of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois; son “Tad” Howard L. Huntington (wife Ellen) of Naperville, Illinois; daughter Laura (Huntington) Donoghue (husband R. David) of Wheaton, Illinois; five grandchildren: Heidi and Lena Huntington; Charles, Ruth, and Clark Donoghue; Aunt Jean (West) McCormick; and other loving relatives. She was an affectionate niece and cousin to many. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen LaMar, and her brother, James LaMar.
She was a member of Salem Friends Church. She worked as a school secretary at May Whitney Elementary School in Lake Zurich, Illinois, and also ran her own business as a florist. She enjoyed gardening, craftmaking, and supporting the community, especially in her hometown Liberty, Indiana. With fond memories from her youth of 4-H in Indiana, she became a 4-H club leader for many years in Illinois. She was a pioneer of the Picture Lady program, where she enthusiastically taught elementary schoolchildren about significant artists and their masterpieces.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Liberty, Indiana, Fosdick Chapel. A funeral service at 10:30 A.M. on, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Salem Friends Church will be led by Steve Logue. Burial will follow in the Salem Friends Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Friends Church or Union County Historical Society.
