Obituary of Geraldine Breen
Geraldine “Geri” Breen, 75, of Richmond, died at her residence on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Geraldine was born in Union County on Wednesday, March 8, 1939, to Gardner Ray and Anna Thomas Waddell. She graduated from Union High School with the class of 1957. Geraldine married the love of her life, Jerry D. Breen, on Tuesday, June 25, 1957 in Connersville. Her employment included the IBEW Union Hall in Richmond, union secretary at PRC, the News Gazette in Winchester, and Walker Research in Indianapolis. In recent years, Geraldine had been developing her artistic ability as a painter, doing acrylic and some oil paintings of landscapes and abstracts. Geraldine entered contests in Wayne County Area 9 where she was a division winner. Crocheting afghans was another of her enjoyments, along with babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the past, Geraldine faithfully hunted mushrooms in Michigan, missing one year due to a kidney transplant. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester, Richmond Senior Center, and TOPS 1289. Geraldine is survived by her husband of 57 years, two sons: Randy D. Breen and wife Ae Yong of Winchester, and Robby Breen and his wife Tammie of Union City; two daughters: Brenda Gibson and husband Jim of Muncie, and Vicki Breen and friend Anna Reyes of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters: Geneva Bane of Richmond, Edith Roberts and husband Bill of CA, Janice Potter and husband Harry of Richmond; four brothers: Garland Waddell and wife Christine of Connersville, Gailen Waddell and wife Mariana of Dayton, OH, Glendon Waddell and wife Betty of Port Richie, FL, and Ronnie Waddell of Daytona Beach, FL. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Juanita Barker and Irene Burton and two brothers: Ed and Darrell Waddell. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty with Rev. Dana Hadden of Hanna’s Creek Church officiating. Interment will follow in College Corner Cemetery.
