It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Vickie Penix Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully at the age of 69 in Lexington, South Carolina, surrounded by her daughter. Vickie was a lifelong resident of Hampton, Tennessee, where she developed a deep love for the mountains and the great outdoors, finding peace and joy in the natural beauty that surrounded her.
Vickie was born to Ivan Penix and Rowena Hathway. She was a devoted mother to her children: Arlene Ross, Timothy Smith, Katina Head, and the late Scottie Smith. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Junior Smith, as well as her brother Nicky Penix and sister Sandy Shell. Vickie is survived by her sister, Tammy Penix, and her cherished grandchildren: Dominique, Lacie, Haley, Catarina, Chloe, Charles, Devin, and Jesse, who brought her great joy and pride.
A woman of deep faith, Vickie found great joy in attending church and sharing the word of God with others. Her unwavering faith, kindness, and generosity made her a cherished member of her community. Vickie’s love for nature was evident in her frequent outdoor activities, where she found solace and renewal in the mountains that she held so dear.
As a mother, Vickie provided love, guidance, and support to her children throughout their lives. She was a constant source of strength for her family, and her love will continue to be a guiding light. Her kindness and faith will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Vickie's life will take place on December 21st, 2024, at 2:00 PM, when her family will gather to scatter her ashes on the graves of her parents, Ivan Penix and Rowena Hathway, in Hampton TN.
Vickie’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
