Rosa Jacquelyn “Jackie” Cooper Tanner, born September 15, 1927, in Aiken County, South Carolina, was a lifetime resident of Pelion, South Carolina. She passed away on October 13, 2021, at the age of ninety-four (94) years old. She went peacefully in her sleep to join our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while being cared for by her daughter and granddaughter at her daughter’s home.
She is predeceased by her parents, Velma Sturkie Cooper and William Lee Cooper; her brothers, William “Bill” Lee Cooper, Jr., Wayne Coster Cooper, Marion Lance “Bo” Cooper, as well as her eldest daughter, Gretchen Bari Smith Lucas; three grandsons, James Lloyd Lucas, Jr., Joey Dean Lucas, Cooper Ray Tanner, and a great-great-grandson, Garet Wise.
She is survived by her spouse of sixty-four (64) years of marriage, Delma Ray Tanner of Pelion; her daughter, Susan Tindal (Phil) of Pelion; her son, Michael Ray Tanner (Barbara) of Gilbert; her granddaughters and grandsons, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Elizabeth Lucas of Georgia, Holli Josette Tindal of Pelion, Bridgette B. Still (Hal) of Lexington, Phil “Dee” DeWight Tindal, II of Pelion, Michael Chance Tanner and Jase Thomas Tanner of Gilbert; six great grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Jerry (Evelyn) Tanner of North Carolina. She was very appreciative of the friendship and kindness of her neighbors, Marshall and Rita Owens.
Mrs. Tanner grew up in Pelion, South Carolina and graduated from Pelion High School, attended the Columbia Commercial College, and retired from Lexington County School District One after many years of service. She was a member at Ebenezer United Methodist Church and attended up until she was unable to do so. She enjoyed her years of working for the school district and in her spare time enjoyed working in her yard with her plants and flowers. She also enjoyed reading and the occasional shopping spree. She will be dearly missed and loved.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 2805 Highway 178 N, in Swansea, South Carolina.
