Ronald Eugene Waldhour, 85, of Chapin, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 22, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Harrietta “Retta” Preacher Allen-Waldhour, his stepdaughters, Suzanne Allen Stephens and Laura Allen Baker (spouse Shannon), and his four grandchildren: Evelyn Stephens, Brooke Stephens, Lauren Stephens, and Jackson Baker.
Ron was born January 19, 1939 in Savannah, Georgia. He was the son of the late Nell Lewis and Elmer Eugene Waldhour and brother to sisters Carolyn Waldhour Baynard, Alyce Waldhour Lightsey and Shirley Anne Waldhour Roche. He attended schools in Savannah. Later, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he attended Junior College and moved on to Tampa where he graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in Liberal Arts.
Ron began his Federal career in 1967 at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He had assignments at Fort Bliss, Texas and Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He met his beloved Retta in Columbia, South Carolina. They were married August 8, 1997.
Ron has been a past president of several Toastmasters clubs, including the Columbia chapter. He enjoyed writing, both fiction and poetry. He self-published a book of his own poetry in 1998. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his unwavering devotion to his loving wife, Retta.
