Roberta “Bobbie” Godley Kirkland was born on November 23, 1942 in St. George, South Carolina. Bobbie graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1964 with a B.S. in Nursing. She later attended the University of South Carolina and received a Master’s in Nursing and went on to teach at the university. Her passion for healthcare extended to head of Neonatal Unit in Alabama, as well as running a facility for veterans.
Bobbie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Stancel Edward Kirkland, Sr.; her mother, Margaret "Winnie" Kennedy Godley; her two children, Alice Kirkland Dyer and Stancel Edward Kirkland, Jr.; her three grandchildren, Sarah Jane Dyer, Ethan Kirkland, and Jackson Dyer and her sisters, Loretta Casey and Saviella Williams. She was predeceased by her father, James Godley.
Bobbie was a caring, beautiful soul that always put others before herself. She lived her life with strong Christian faith. Bobbie passed on October 17, 2022 surrounded by family.
A memorial service will take place at Shandon United Methodist Church on Devine Street in Columbia, South Carolina at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 21. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Player Hall at Shandon. Flowers can be sent to the church for her service. If you would like to give a donation in her honor, they can be given to Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia.
