LEXINGTON - Funeral services for Richard “Dick” Collier Wingate, Sr., 97, will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Mr. Wingate was born on November 5, 1920 in Rock Hill, S.C. and passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2018. He was the son of the late Thomas Austin and Ola Collier Wingate. He served in WWII as an artillery instructor at Fort Sill, OK and served in France in the 13th Airborne Glider Corp. He was a retired machinist and enjoyed many hobbies, including flying, drawing, woodworking, and model building.
Mr. Wingate is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ella Corley Wingate; his sons, Richard, Jr. (Joyce), Tom (Jan), and Frank (Ann) all of Lexington; three grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, James Austin and Thomas Eddy Wingate.
