LEXINGTON - Mary Anne Finney, 92, of Lexington, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 28, 2018. She was born on February 28, 1925 in St. Joseph, IL. The daughter of the late Oliver L. and Isabel McMahon Anderson
She married Clyde W. Finney on March 21, 1947 in Danville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sisters, Bette White and Naomi Bradly, son-in-law, Robert Harlow and her great-granddaughter, Ruth Anne Howell.
Mary Anne graduated from Oakwood Township High School and St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Danville. She worked as a registered nurse in various hospitals and doctor’s offices in Danville before moving to Columbia in 1969. She worked for many years at Baptist Hospital in the newborn and neonatal nurseries and took great pride in being present for the birth of her grandchildren and giving them their first baths. She later worked for Pediatric Associates until her retirement in 1991. She was a long-time member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. She loved to bake for her family and friends and made over 200 Christmas stockings for family, friends and pets over a twenty-year period.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Harlow, Barbara (Daniel) Wessinger and Joyce (Lee) Riley: grandchildren, Ned and Suzanne LaTourelle, Erick (Sara) and Ethan (Leah) Wessinger and Elizabeth (Todd) Howell. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Gabbie, Kenslee, Kash, Charlie, Cruz, Meah, and Savannah, with one more on the way, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Carolina Gardens, formerly (Agape Senior Care) and Comfort Care Hospice for the kindness and care extended to our mother over the last eight years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Comfort Care Hospice, 403 N. Lake Dr., Lexington, SC 29072.
