LEXINGTON – A Graveside service for Margie Carol Gates, 70, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015, in Southland Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
Margie was born November 8, 1944 in Columbia, SC and passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015. She was a daughter of the late Murdaugh P. Gates and Margaret Newman Gates. Margie was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.
Despite a life-long struggle with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Margie kept her positive attitude and sense of humor. She was very spirited and lived life to the fullest within her limits. She enjoyed painting, gardening, and loved all animals. She had many dogs to love during her lifetime. Most recently she spent many hours playing cards with friends at Life Care Center. Her sister, Brenda felt “She was the wind beneath my wings”.
The Family would like to extend thanks, to the staff of Life Care Center of Columbia and the ER at Providence North East, Willie May Blevins, and the many wonderful physicians that cared for her.
Surviving are her sister, Brenda Barwick (Vic) of Lexington; brother, William “Billy” Gates (Glenda) of Elgin;
nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and also her beloved pet, Annie.
