She was the daughter of the late Mary Lou Brumfield and Herston Clay of Lincoln, WV. She was born in Huntington, WV. She was a 1976 graduate of Irmo High School and attended USC and Western Carolina. She worked many years as a psychiatric social worker. Mrs. Stephens was a very driven person with a big heart and an unforgettable smile. She remained a brave, strong iron willed woman even in her final days.
She is survived by her loving husband Joseph “Joey: E. Stephens, her daughter and son-in-law, Amber Stephens Brown and Michael David Brown; her son, Joseph Clay Stephens and her brother –in-law David Stephens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tri-County Hospice for their incredible care and support or South Carolina Oncology society.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
