LEXINGTON – Jim J. Jones, 79, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, after being suddenly stricken with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington.
Jim was born June 24, 1934 in Arkansas City, KS to Elvis and Ruth Olinger Jones. Jim was a graduate of Arkansas City High School and Kansas State University. He began his career at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK, working as an Information Technology professional at Celanese Corporation in both New York with a re-location to Charlotte, NC in 1972. Jim co-founded Network Computing and Jones Business Automation in Charlotte, and worked briefly at Sunrise Software; spending years in software development. In 1995 he relocated to Lexington, SC and continued his long professional career as Vice president of Information Technology at Mid-Carolina Cooperative until he retired in 2007. Upon retirement Jim worked in real estate and remained active until his sudden illness.
Survivors include his wife, Renelda Chapman Jones of the home; daughters, Joni and husband, Eric Ely of Charlotte, NC, Juli and husband, Mike Riley of Port Charlotte, FL; sons, Jamie Jones of Aberdeen, NC, Jim and wife, Laura Jones of Vass, NC, Joey Jones of Vass, NC; brother, Brenton and sister, Marianna; 10 grandchildren, Kristy Torres, Tara Davis, Lura Harley, Jessica Souter, Sarah Harley, Jason Jones, Virginia Jones, Christopher Jones, Dylan Jones, Brittany Jones; 3 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Makenzie and Ely Torres. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob and sister, Wanda.
