I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Jason while our families were in Berlin together during the 70's.

I am truly sorry to hear the news regarding Jason's passing. I met Jason from his work at Workshop Theatre. His positive attitude and  sense of humor were always present whenever one encountered Jason. I know he will be missed but I take solace in the fact that Jason and I crossed paths. Jason embodied the ideals of taking advantage of everyday and living life to its fullest. Continue your message among the angels. 

Angel, and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was always filled with light. I can see his smile vividly, in my head. What a great man. He left us too soon, but he left a great legacy of kindness. 

Met Jason in 2012 at the ASOM Little Creek, Va.  he was a Staff SGT at the time.   Very intelligent, quickly competent in all directions, great performer,  wonderful kind empathetic personality;  haven't met too many in my life with all these qualities.
             Dr. Sprankle you are missed, to your family all blessing & comfort (I hope sometime they contact me).   What a blessing to have served with you even if it was a short busy, demanding environment.   I did not know you were ill brother,  til' we meet again, JAS, play some great licks on that heavenly stage friend   :)    !

We were co-workers in Richland County School District One. He had such a wonderful and loving spirit with all his students. We had so much fun together in meetings acting “crazy.” Thank you so much for being a great teacher to my children at Irmo Middle. They learned so much about performance. You were such a great musician, caring teacher, amazing artist, and wonderful friend. RIP with Jesus🙏🏽.

My memory of Jason is meeting him at Haley Sprankle’s graduation (my son’s girlfriend).   We were seated next to each other at dinner after the ceremony and I introduced myself as Chris’ mom.  Jason immediately stood up gave me a hug and said “so you are family!”
The rest of the evening we talked about our childhoods, our families, music and our favorite songs.  You would have thought we knew each other for years, the conversation flowed like wine. Later, I learned how loved he was by Rob, Lauren, Haley, Chris, Jake, Rachael and I’m certain Sarah and his very own children (naturally).  There is something to be said for people who make people feel cared for and special. They make the world a better place and leave a legacy to aspire to replicate.  From a distance we join you in celebrating the life of a very special man and we wish you a heart full of beautiful memories to cherish a lifetime! I have worked with Mr. Sprankle for many years at River Bluff HS.  All my interactions and conversations with him were uplifting, comical and positive.  I had many conversations about music with him, old school, rock, big band, etc and his passion for music was always evident.  I will miss seeing his bright smile in the mornings and sharing funny stories.  His students loved his classes and loved him as a person.  He will be missed.  Praying for your family.

I worked with Jason at RB and our sons went through the Center together and later to MTSU.  Jason was supportive and  a patient listener as we discussed the future choices of our sons. He was always available and told great stories. As a German teacher, I especially enjoyed hearing about his experience s growing up in Berlin in the 70's. I will always remember Jason"s twinkle in his eyes as he would flash that mischievous smile. Jason was full of personality and was a unique individual. I will miss him.

Dr. Sprankle was the best teacher I could have asked for. One of the first times we talked I brought up that I was from Fredrick MD and he said “Really? I’m from there too, we’re homies!” It made me laugh. I wish you the best Dr. Sprankle, we will always be homies

Mr. Sprankle was one of he best teachers at Alcorn Middle. He was funny, understanding, and really connected with every student that he spoke with. He showed us that there was absolutely nothing wrong with being who we are. He will be truly missed but Never Forgotten. Fly high and rock out in heaven and may God be with your family during this time. 

Jason was a blessing sent from above.  He helped through a very dark time in  my life when we were both serving in Germany.   His legacy has lived on through me all this time and i am grateful to him. 

Last time I saw him, he hugged me.  Last time I spoke with him, he told me he loved me.  That’s who he was.  Thank you Lord for blessing me with this  memory before you took him home.   I will cherish it.  The world has been a much better place with him  in it. 

Our family is very sorry for your loss. Mr. Sprankle taught my daughter piano at Riverbluff. I am grateful for the skills he had, that he shared with my daughter. God bless your family during this time.

Jason gave me confidence and assurance just when I needed it.  The curtain was about to go up for the opening of Buddy Holly at the Town Theater.  I was the lead singer for the first song "My Little Rose of Texas," and was very nervous.  Jason grinned at me and affirmed, "you own this Z-Man!"   I breathed that in.  The song went great and though I exited stage right after the song, my feet never touched the ground for the next 15 minutes as my spirit soared! Dr. Sprankle was a blessing to the students at RBHS.  My sons favorite teacher of all time!  He made a huge impact on him and every student that was blessed to have him as a teacher or friend.  He will be greatly missed by all & he would want everyone to keep on playing!!  Rest in Gods hands & be free my friend.


Herr Dr. Jason Sprankle, one of my all time favorite persons and teacher who made a huge impact on my choices after high school. He was witty, full of music,  and was always willing to share his time and insight with his students. He could make anyone smile, any day.

I was lucky enough to be taught “Drama” by Mr. Sprankle at Irmo Middle School. He was truly one of the sweetest men to walk this earth, and was always more than willing to help his students. He will be missed. 

Mr. Sprinkle! I remember back at Irmo middle school you we're the best. You tought me so much about acting. I'll never forget the day you came into class one day and said, "Never put the peace sign up again, it's the sign of the middle finger in England". You were always so cheerful and allowed everybody to feel comfortable on the stage. You were the funniest teacher, and always amazing to be around. I will truly miss you dearly and the amazing traveling stories you told! Not to bring up you playing guitar and all in class haha.

Mr Sprankle was my performing arts teacher in middle school.  He was always smiling, always joking around & talking to students, whether he knew them or not.  Middle school is a hard time to navigate; he made it a little easier by reminding us there was fun to be had and not to take things too seriously.  He had such a bright personality and I feel very grateful for the difference he made in my life.  Rest In Peace. 

I am a former student of Mr. Sprankle, he was my chorus teacher at Alcorn Maurice Middle. He made singing fun, he realized we were children and allowed us to express ourselves in his class. His passion for music made me want to understand music, more than it being just a song. The melody, the drums, the bass and if there was a saxophone. Get out of town! Being his student made me feel music when I hear it. He made me fall in love with music.  I appreciate everything he ever taught me. 

Jason and I were music colleagues together at Irmo Middle School from 2004-2009. ?  He taught performing arts and I taught chorus and we shared an office together. He was always so positive and uplifting every morning and always had a joke to share with me. We talked about how much we loved our children and our students. He was so gifted in singing and playing his guitar that he  started a guitar class after school. All the boys in my class wanted to take his class and learn how to play guitar cause he was the "Rock Star".  I was honored to know him. He was a team player and always helped me out when I needed him.  We stayed connected throughout the years as friends. We were like brother and sister. I will miss him greatly!!!

Mr. Sprankle was one of my favorite teachers during my time at River Bluff. He was caring and passionate and he loved sharing his love for music with anyone who would listen. I really felt like he cared about me, and I don't just mean that he cared whether or not I passed his class. I remember talking to him on multiple occasions about things that were going on outside of school and he was always there to listen and provide good advice. That's something I'll never forget. I'm so grateful to have known him and I know without a doubt he will be dearly missed. 

I was so sorry to hear of Jason's passing.  I hadn't seen him in years, and really didn't know him all that well, but we were living in the same apartment complex about 6 or 7 years ago and we got to talking and realized we were both musicians, so we always had a lot to talk about!  I even sat with him at an Irmo Football game once where he tried his best to explain to me what was going on lol!  I don't think I ever saw him without a smile on his face.  My deepest condolences to his family.  

Dr. Sprankle was always one of those teachers that I was always excited to see no matter what we were doing in class. He always would have something funny to say, an interesting story to tell, and would always make sure everyone was having a great time in class. If it wasn’t for Dr. Sprankle, I never would have joined the music center at RBHS and I would have no idea how to play the guitar. The last time I talked to him, he told me I wasn’t a hippie like him anymore because I cut my hair short, and that he wanted to hear about what I was up to soon. As much as I wish I could have caught up with him more, I’m glad I have all of the wonderful memories that I have with him, and I will never forget all the influence that Dr. Sprankle has had on my life. 

I knew JB the first time I was enlisted in 246 Army Band. When I reenlisted, he was one of the first to welcome me back and catch me up on everything I had missed. I always enjoyed exchanging dad jokes, hearing about his adventures, and hearing him tease me about liking Manchester United. “Man U??? Ugh”

Most of all, I will miss his optimism, his sense of humor and his guidance. I am incredibly grateful that I got the chance to know him and my heart is with his family.

Hi, My name is Asia Caldwell. I am a former student of Dr. Sprankle's. I just wanted to say that he was a blessing and an inspiration to everyone he came across. When I had no other friends and no one else to turn to, he was always here. I always knew he would be there, I never had to doubt his loyalty, intentions or advice. God really did take the most beautiful flower from the garden.  Im praying for you all!

It was a joy to have Jason as a member of the strings team of Lexington One.  I also have fond memories of sharing laughs and tacos between sessions at the SCMEA convention.  Blessings, my friend!

Dr. Sprankle was one of my favorite teachers at River Bluff when I was there from 2014-2016. He always had a radiance of positivity and a passion for life that I found deeply inspiring. 

He was always very encouraging to me about following my dreams, even when I would begin to doubt myself and hit a rough patch.  His door was always open to help me and many others, and I feel like I’m a better man for having known him.

I met Jason through mutual friends and always enjoyed his humor. My memory from the Eagles concert will be forever in my heart. We harmonized every word to every song that night. That man can sing! No doubt he has a song sheet for his new choir and if we sit still in the early moon light, I’ll bet we can hear his sweet music. 🎵  🎼  🎶 

Dr. Sprankle was an amazing teacher who inspired me to keep living. He inspired all of our guitar 2 class and even if he was going through hell, he always had a smile on his face. I hope he knew how much we all loved him, I hope rests in peace and I know he has found his way into rock and roll heaven ❤️

There was never a time Dr.Sprankle wasn’t trying to make us laugh. Always cracking jokes and finding the silver lining. On top of being an amazing person, he was the best teacher. He always looked out for the struggling students and tried everything he could to help them. He was so devoted to music and how important it was for people to learn. He once said after we pass, we get our own slice of the universe that is forever ours. What it’s like there is based off how we are in life. So I know there’s a rock party off somewhere in the universe, full of rad music, laughter, and amazing friendships. He really pulled all his students together into one big unforgettable family. And we can never thank him enough. Enjoy your slice of the universe Sprank, you deserve it. 

He would always start off class saying something really funny and random and would always have great talks with me. We loved to argue about all kinds of topics during class and he truly taught me a lot. He was a great guy who always had a smile on his face and kept me laughing constantly. I haven’t seen him in a few years and really wish I could’ve told him how much of an impact he made on my life as a teacher. 

Jason and I sparred good naturedly over our soccer rivalry, his love for Manchester City and my love for Manchester United. We would critique each other's wins and losses on a Monday. I will miss that banter. Rest in peace my friend, the sky blues have lost a great fan.

Rick and I are deeply saddened by Jason’s passing. He was a dear high school friend who made living in Berlin just a little more fun and a lot more exciting!  We were blessed enough to keep our friendship going after high school and became family, literally.  My first born was named after him and he is father to my nephew. He will be missed.  I am so thankful he came to see us last year, leaving us with one more fond memory. Every time I think of him, I see that handsome face with the mischievous smile that always left me wondering... what’s he up to now!  Rest In Peace and Jam On brother.  Until we me again! 

I was deeply saddened to hear about Dr. Sprankle today at school. I substituted for Dr. Sprankke at River Bluff Hugh School and got to sit and chit chat with him and was immediately drawn in to his witty kind warm personality and stories for days about his time in Berlin and the Airforce Band.  HIs love for music and his students was evident. We found common ground over  our love of old rock music and local theatre. I wish I could have  gotten to know him better he seemed like a real great guy and wonderful teacher and a heck of a guitar player. May he rest easy. God speed Dr. Sprankle God speed.

Dr. Sprankle would always make your day. I was a student of his freshman year. I never really enjoyed piano class, but I would always look forward to seeing him because he was so quirky and funny, doing his weird accents and us bonding over Elton John. Every morning I would sit in the band hall and I would see him walk by. He would either make a funny face or say something out of the ordinary, but it would always make me smile. He gave me a good start to my day. May you rock on with all the other Rock Gods❤️

Jason and I knew each other since Berlin. I met him at 16 and we stayed friends throughout the years. Jason has had a piece of my heart since we met. He has been my friend since day one and I am so very blessed and grateful to have had him in my life. I have a lot of wonderful memories. My heart is broken. My condolences to his family. My prayers are with you. ❤

I was a student of Dr. Sprankles my senior year of high school at River Bluff. It filled my heart with joy coming to his class everyday and seeing him be so passionate about teaching. I could be having the worst day of my life, but the second I came into piano his warm spirit turned my frown upside down. I could always count on him if I needed to talk to anyone about literally anything. He was my absolute favorite, not only teacher, but kind soul that I spoke to everyday during my time at River Bluff. Thank you Sprankle for helping fuel my passion for music and being one of the kindest souls I ever encountered. I could always count on you. 

Jason and I knew each other briefly in Berlin Germany as BRATS. He was always full of life and laughter and was so much fun to be around. Usually we were always up to no good.  :) Weren't we all? Rest easy now my friend and be at peace. Prayers to your family.

So many memories since we first met in 1976, behind the Wall of Berlin, Germany..  We are forever locked together as brat brothers, musicians, in performances, and heritage.. Peace and strength to his family and friends..
