James enjoyed singing and playing multiple instruments, his favorite being the guitar. James also enjoyed anything around the water, especially fishing. James owned and ran several businesses over the years with his former wife, Joyce M. Corder. His favorite and most relaxing venture was his produce businesses, while also running Corder Roofing.
James is preceded in death by former wife, Joyce Corder; parents, Lila Estella Strickland Corder and James Luther Corder, Sr.; birth parents, Henry T. Corder, Sr. and Juanita W. Corder; brothers, Henry T. Corder, Jr. and James W. Corder.
He is survived by children, Cecil Corder, Tammy Hornsby, James Ralph Corder, Jr., Joy Oswald, Thomas Prouse and Randall Prouse (nephews), Rebecca Gates (niece); significant other, Barbara West; siblings, Gracie Hickerson, Dalmer Broom and husband Robert, Evetta Saint, Ronnie R. Corder; half-sisters, Michelle Corder and Amanda Corder; grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, Jaushua, Ronnie, Audrianna, Brooke, Austin, Jamey, Lily Bell, Brittney and Amber; great grandchildren, Isiah, Mason, Dreyden, Karalynn, Anorah, Isabella, Kaden and Noah; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Roberts, John Corder and Melissa Corder along with additional grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Midway Methodist Church Cemetery, 8481 Old Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29223. The family will receive family and friends at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers are Randall Prouse, Austin Smith, Brooke Smith, Jamey Corder, Amber Oswald and Brittney Oswald. Honorary Pallbearers are Conner Dawkins and Joshua Ulengchong.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please post childhood photos and family memories online if possible or copies made.
