Helen Way Wilson, 83, was born February 14, 1938 in Denmark, SC and passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Mamie Lee and Lennie “Jake” Way. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Marcia Wilson of Lexington, SC and Lana (Tom) Cronin of West Columbia, SC, and many family members she held dear. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Allen “Bobby” Walter Wilson of Lexington, SC, and a brother, Lynward Way.
Helen graduated from Denmark High School in 1956, where she received superlatives for ‘Friendliest’, ‘Most Courteous’, and ‘Most Dependable’ which were attributes that continued to describe her throughout her life. She starting working the soda fountain at Smith’s Pharmacy in the 8th grade and retired as a pharmacy tech with Daniel’s Pharmacy in 2011. She loved interacting with people.
While in Denmark, Helen was a member of Ghents Branch Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years. After moving to Lexington, she moved her letter to Laurel Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school for a time, as well. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, including her “grand-kitties”. She was very social and enjoyed talking with family and friends (as evidenced by the cell minutes she used). She also loved watching her “game shows”, shopping with her girls, and having her every whim catered to.
We lost Dad only 10 months ago. It was unexpected losing Mom so soon after. We miss them more than words could express. Our comfort comes in knowing that Mom is with Dad again, rejoicing in our Lord’s grace, which makes us smile. And we will see them again one day.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow at Ghents Branch Baptist Church cemetery in Denmark, SC.
