Helen Corley Drafts

COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Helen Corley Drafts, 87, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 10000 Broad River Rd., Irmo, SC 29063.

Mrs. Drafts was born October 2, 1929 in Lexington County and passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Blanche Harmon Corley. Mrs. Drafts was a Registered Nurse, graduating from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She started her career at Liverman Hospital, and worked for Dr. Ben Miller for over 35 years. After retirement, Helen and J. D. Traveled to all 50 states. They also enjoyed working in their vegetable garden and flower garden. In addition Helen enjoyed family genealogy, tracing both hers and J.D’s linage. She was married for 66 years to Jesse D. Drafts.

Mrs. Drafts is survived by her husband, Jesse D. Drafts of Columbia; sons, Jimmy (Cathy) Drafts of Lexington and William C. “Billy” Drafts of Columbia; grandchildren, Jacob (Jake) Daniel Drafts, Kaitlen (Kate) Rose Drafts, Matthew (Matt) Porter Drafts and her sister-in-law Verta Drafts Koon. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews who thought of her as a second mother. She was predeceased by her son, Fred L. Drafts and her brother, George R. Corley.
