LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Dr. Grady A. McElmurray, Jr., 80, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with a private burial to follow. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
Dr. Grady A. McElmurray, Jr. was born October 28, 1933 and went into eternal rest on Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was a son of the late Grady A. McElmurray, Sr. and Alice Whitlaw McElmurray. Dr. McElmurray was a member of Lexington Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Clemson University and the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced 45 years as a veterinarian in the states of Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina, primarily in Aiken, SC where he established Veterinary Services, PA. He served as State President of the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians as well as six years on the South Carolina Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. He was also a very active member of the Gideons International for 48 years and served in many capacities including South Carolina State President. He also served many years on the Board of Directors for the Guido Evangelistic Association of Metter, GA.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Thera Tyner McElmurray; children, Janet Foster, Dr. Charles T. McElmurray (Mary Ann) and Nell Norton; 10 grandchildren, Polly Riede (Robert), Alice Bryant (Bradley), Leslie Williams (Joel), Jim Foster, Lee Foster, Sarah, Ben, Anna, Mary and Ruth McElmurray and four great-grandchildren.
