George Dorn was a one of a kind character. As their yard maintenance guy, I always looked forward to visits with him. He was a straight forward, tell you as it is kinda man. His wisdom and approach at analyzing situations will stick with me.  He was always calm and collected and able to explain the not so obvious parts to the equation. I will miss him dearly. Farewell Mr. George Dorn.

We always looked forward to seeing Mr. Dorn come in the pool store. He was always positive and especially kind! He became part of our family and so did Mrs. Kathy! He was such a particular “pool guy”! Most people complain about what they have to add to their pool, but if I didn’t highlight something on his printout, he wanted to know why I left it out. lol He will be so very missed! We love y’all, Mrs. Kathy!!💕

It was a great pleasure to work with George while he was at SC General Services. He was a genuinely good and Christ-like man.  
When we heard he was coming to GS, a friend of mine at the Budget office said that after George visited you, he would leave your office and within exactly one minute he would be back at the door with another thought.  And, I was told, you could almost always time it.  And sure enough, that is exactly the way it happened. 
One of George’s greatest talents was the ability to marshal the efforts and skills of others to achieve the goals of the organization.  Yet he never sought credit for himself.  The world could use many more like him.  
My condolences to the family and all who knew and loved George.

Kathy, my heart breaks for you and your family in the loss of your dear husband. I pray that God will send comfort and much love to you all.

I am deeply saddened to learn George passed away. Our friendship dates back to 1980. We worked together at the State Auditors Office and the Division of General Services. Most recently, we served as commission members of the SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum. I sought his sage advice, always delivered with care and humor, throughout my career. What a wonderful man! The last time I saw George, we sat together in bleachers and watched our grands play football. I will miss him deeply.

I knew George when he served at JBRC with the State of S.C.  I remember him calling every morning around 9am to see how my day had started…he was such a joy.  Then he swore I had a twin in Lexington so we laughed about that as I was from Lexington too.  

To his family, you have a man to be proud of and he loved yall unconditionally and that was evident.  To God be the glory for his life!

I am sure that I am joined by George’s many friends who, like me,  are saddened by his passing. I can only imagine how many memorable “Dorn” stories are out there among the friends he made in his long and successful career. I’ve had the privilege of working with many people in my government career and, no matter our roles, every encounter with George was positive. His service to our state  and his true commitment to serving others is an example to us all. A smile comes to my face when I think of “Dorn” (it must have been an army thing but we never used our first names ). It was my privilege to have worked with and to have enjoyed the company of my friend George Dorn.

My name is Allen Roberson.  I'm the Executive Director of the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum.  George was appointed and elected Chairman of the Museum's Commission during it's first year in 2015, a particularly difficult period for the museum.  George's counsel and assistance was invaluable for me during 2015-2016, and I believe the Museum would not have survived without him.  Today, the Museum is experiencing the strongest attendance in over fifty years and that is part of George's legacy.  I considered George a good friend and will greatly miss him, and sincerely appreciate the major and positive impact he had on our agency, as he had on so many other agencies and Commissions for the State of South Carolina.

What a joy  it was to work with George at the Budget and Control Board. He was such a wise and thoughtful man.  I was in Human Resource Management when he was in the State  Budget Office and it was always evident how much he cared about his staff.  He was a loyal friend and colleague and touched many lives throughout his career. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers for the family. May God wrap His loving arms around all of you and comfort you in the days ahead.

I worked with George for a number of years at the Budget and Control Board of SC.  He was an exceptional professional and an outstanding person.  We are all better off because of his contributions.  My sympathies go to his family.  He will be missed.

Too many great memories to write, we will miss you! We love you!

Our hearts were saddened to hear of George’s passing.  He brought life when he entered a room.  He loved his family.  He was a recipient of the “Purple Heart” while serving our country.  My daughter, Nicole, interviewed George for a school  project on his military experience.  A very special memory.  I remember when we worked for Mr. Garvin in the Budget Office, Wade Hampton Building, George’s work space was in the broom closet.  He was well liked by many people, and the lives he touched.  We were so blessed to have been a part of his journey.  May God give you comfort and peace.  Our deepest sympathy, Fran and Ken Barr and Nicole Cranford.
