Gene Randolph Ellison

Gene was born on January 15, 1942 in Chester, SC. He later moved to Anderson, SC where he graduated from Anderson Boys’ High School. He attended the University of Virginia where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he attended the University of South Carolina where he obtained a Master of Business Administration. Gene also attended the University of South Carolina School of Law where he obtained a Juris Doctor in 1969. Gene was admitted to the SC Bar and practiced law for 25 years.

In 1994, he went to work for Cherokee, Inc., a general contracting firm based in Columbia, SC. He served as their in-house counsel and Chief Financial Officer. He was active on committees for the Carolinas Associated General Contractors (AGC).

A loving husband and father, Gene is survived by his wife, Penny Edwards Ellison; a son, John Scott Ellison (Emily) and daughter, Ashley Chatham Ellison. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Ellison Morris. Gene was blessed with a loving extended family and many wonderful friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, John Raymond Ellison; mother, Gladys Burry Ellison and brother, John William “Bill” Ellison.

A memorial service and receiving of friends will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, 3:00 PM, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
