Raymond was born in Lewiston on February 28, 1943, a son to Roland and Marie Anna (née Morin) Guay. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Lewiston High School. He was married to Linda Parent until her passing in 1971, and later married Diane Lauziere until her passing in June of 2023.
Raymond was a dedicated veteran with over 40 years in the service. He served in the United States Air Force for 8 years, the U.S. Army for 2 years with 3 tours in Vietnam, and for 30 years in the Army National Guard. Over his time in the service, Raymond was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and two Bronze Service Stars for his service in Vietnam.
After his active duty service, Raymond worked at Bradlees in Lewiston as a security guard and then worked at Bath Iron Works as a marine electrician. He also worked as an officer on the Sabattus Police Department and as a deputy for the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Department.
Raymond was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church during his youth, and later at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. He was also a member of the Le Passe-Temp Club and the Kora Shriners, serving in both the Provost and Greeters Units.
In his free time, Raymond enjoyed fishing, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends. He also loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and artistic performances.
Raymond is predeceased by his parents and his wife Diane, his sons Brian Guay and Robert Raymond Guay, as well as his siblings Roland Guay and Rachel Nelson.
He is survived by his son David Guay and wife Erin of Lewiston, his daughter Dawn Theriault and husband Adam of Minot, his grandchildren Emma, Lauren and Anna Theriault, and Samuel and Annaliese Guay. He also leaves behind his brother Roger Guay of Lewiston, sister Rita Bisson of Lewiston, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Holy Cross Church. Committal Prayers with Military Honors will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00PM at the Maine Veteran Memorial Cemetery on Civic Center Drive in Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, his family welcomes donations in his name to St. Dominic Academy or to Androscoggin Hospice House.
