My name is Carly Downs and I attended Longley Elementary School in 1992. Mrs Girard was my very first teacher and she was my favorite teacher. I always had a great time and her class and she always made me feel special and smart. She always recognized me for my beautiful red hair. I still have the Christmas gift that she gave me. It is a door ornament with a Santa face and there is a ribbon with bells hanging from the ribbon. I will always cherish her gift and the memories that she left with me for a lifetime. To her family and friends my sincerest condolences for your loss. I did not realize she had passed over a year ago. Had I had known I would have attended her services and to tell you all in person how wonderful she was and that there are so many students whose hearts and lives she touched forever. Rest in peace Mrs Girard. One day I'll see you again.❤️❤️

She will be remembered in prayers at Mass this Sunday.

Dear Anne-Marie and Family,

My eyes are filled with tears as I write this...:(  I am SOOO very SAD and SORRY for the loss of your beautiful and magnificent Mother!!  I am just seeing this now, so I have, sadly, missed the memorial and funeral, or I would have been there to give you a great BIG HUGGGG, for I know how much you all LOVED and ADORED your Mom, and she LOVED and ADORED all of YOU!!!!!   I was so moved by all of these precious pictures;  your Mom was surely filled with an incredible joie de vivre and what a gift she has passed on to ALL of YOU:  that Joy and Laughter and Grace and Goodness that I have seen in EVERY Girard family member I have been LUCKY enough to meet along the way, and from the looks of it that has now been passed on to her darling grandchildren and great grandchildren!!!  How I loved meeting your Mom all those years ago, and how I loved spending that moment in time with you, Anne-Marie, her AMAZING daughter, at USM, who surely walks in her path of love and light and has spread it to me and to ALL who were LUCKY enough to cross your path!  I send you and your family my LOVE and PRAYERS and STRENGTH to get through these difficult days ahead without your AMAZING role-model of a Mom!

I was saddened to read of the passing of your mother in The Portland Press Herald. My mother absolutely adored your mother.  They were close teaching colleagues at Multi-Purpose for many years.  My mother always said to me of Ms. Girard, "You should see what she does with those kids!" I think, also, that our mothers did line dancing together at Montello Heights. Teachers often develop close working relationships with other teachers. Multi -Purpose had a very close knit group.   My mother passed away in 10/2020. I am so sorry for your loss.  I will not be able to attend Lucille’s funeral.  I will be out of town.  I just want to remind everyone what an outstanding , compassionate educator Lucille  was. Knowing Mrs Girard (Gigi) was a blessing. A wonderful woman who made her life meaningful in being a wife,mother, grandmother, and mother in law, and friend to all.. Her work as a Eucharistic Minister was impressively important. Requiescat in pace, Lucille.

I also line danced with Lucille. I will always remember her smile and her ability to laugh at herself if she messed up.. She was a very gentle person who cared for everyone.  We will all miss her.

Nilda Vazquez Jacobus says: Lucille was a dear person and a dear friend. She was always so pleasant and kind. she welcomed  me to the line dancing class when I was new and made me feel part of the group. I so enjoyed the lunches with lucille and jaqui, jeanette, claudette and claudette. We had such fun talking and sharing stories. 

My best wishes to lucille’s family who she loved so much.

Lucille was a lovely lady who brought a smile to everyone she met.  Her positive attitude and kindness are rare in today's world.  Even when she was ill, she would ask about others and how they are doing?  I will always remember her sweet demeanor and gentleness.  
She was so very proud of her children and grandchildren.  My heart goes out to all of them.

Lucille was a sweet, sweet lady.  Always smiling.  I was in the line dance class with her.  She loved to dance, & it was evident.  She will be remembered lovingly by many.  Rest in peace, Lucille.  You will be missed.  Donna Zahn
