Lewiston - Carmen Y. Lapointe, 85, of Lewiston, passed away Monday morning, January 14, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 30, 1927, in Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Paul and Laura (Nadeau) Lachance. A month after she was born, the family moved to Lewiston where they lived with her Uncle Adelard Nadeau until they settled into their own home. At the age of 25 she became a proud citizen of the United States. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Lewiston High School. On July 5, 1952, she married the love of her life Fernand Lapointe who passed away just last week. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this past July. Together they worked and raised their family of 6 children. She was an excellent homemaker who also helped her husband in the businesses they owned which included Lapointe's Esso and Lapointe's Lawn and Garden Center in Lewiston. She was a devout member of Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church and was a member of The Ladies of St. Anne Sodality and The Canado Americaine. She was also a past member of The Marchande De Bonheur and a past Girl Scout Assistant Leader. Carmen had a great passion for sewing and quilting, cooking for friends and relatives, especially her favorite dish "La Bonne Soupe", which all her family loved. After many hard working years, Carmen and Fern enjoyed wintering in Florida during their retirement. Carmen is survived by her 5 daughters: Susan Masse and her husband Robert of Lewiston, Nancy Castonguay and her husband Denis of Lewiston, Joline Pelletier and her husband Gary of Wales, Denise Dugas and her husband Dan of Jackman, Jane (Lapointe) Audet and her companion Joey Card of Monmouth, One son: Paul Lapointe and his wife Donna of Wales, her sister Loretta Demers and her husband Normand, her brother Laurier Lachance and his wife Christine all of Lewiston, 13 grandchildren; Alison (Masse) Casey, Derek, Kevin and Renee Castonguay, Jonathan Pelletier, Danny and Duane Dubois, Joshua, Ryan and Lacey Audet, Eric, Kelsey and Adam Lapointe, three great-grandchildren: Katryn and Kayla Dubois and Kaley Audet, many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Carmen was predeceased by her husband Fernand. The family would like to thank all those from the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their support, understanding and devotion during this difficult time, especially the past couple of weeks. The family also thanks Dr. Jeffrey Brown for his compassionate care of their mother. Visiting hours will be held at Fortin \ Lewiston on Friday from 6 PM to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lewiston. Committal Services will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Lewiston.
