Ronald Edwin Smith Ronald E. Smith, of Levittown, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. He was 81. "A good man, who fought a good fight." Born in Philadelphia, Ron grew up in Langhorne and was a graduate of Lower Moreland High School, Huntingdon Valley, Class of 1951 where he met "the love of his life", Ellen Margerison of Rockledge. Ron proudly served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, US Army, during the Korean Conflict. He married Ellen (Margerison) on September 29, 1956 at Saint Cecelia Roman Catholic Church in Fox Chase, Philadelphia. Upon returning from their honeymoon, the newlyweds were original Levittown homeowners in Quincy Hollow, where they still reside today. Ron was a member of Queen of the Universe Parish, where he coached CYO football. He also coached Little League baseball at Middletown Athletic Association. He was a longtime member of the Langhorne Rod and Gun Club, 82nd Airborne Association, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles and "Jeopardy". He was a voracious reader and had an extensive library, history and military books being his favorites. Ron was a great storyteller and his family and friends were the benefactors of his varied recollections on many subjects. Ron retired from US Steel, Fairless Works, as a supervisor after 33 years of service, and retired from Bucks County Community College in January 1999. Ron was the beloved husband of almost 59 years to Ellen, the very proud and loving father to his son, Craig and his wife Ann, of Lake Worth, Florida and his daughter Colleen Olson and her husband, Eric of Baltimore, MD. He was the devoted and admired "Pop-Pop" to Sean, Allyson and Brian Smith, Victoria and Lara Olson. Ron had fond memories of traveling to 33 states, Canada, Mexico and the British Isles and the family vacations and trips he and Ellen took to visit and see their grandsons play ice hockey and granddaughters' dance recitals, cheerleading and horse-back riding events. Ron's children and grandchildren will be eternally grateful for the values he instilled in them largely through example. Ron will be sadly missed and forever loved by his devoted family. Our thanks to Sue and Carol from Chandler Hall Hospice for their compassionate care to Ron. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 10:30 until 11:30 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon at Queen of the Universe Church followed by the Rite of Committal in Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.
