Peter Matiko has gone to be with previously deceased family members on Tuesday June 1, 2021 at the age of 87.
Born and raised in Duryea, PA, Mr. Matiko was a 1951 graduate of Duryea High School. He moved to Bucks County in 1957.
Mr. Matiko had a few nicknames. Many knew him as “Steel Mill Pete” or “Serenity Pete”. He touched the lives of so many with his gentle faithful demeanor and his “one day at a time” attitude.
Peter served in the United States Coast Guard, 1953-1957. He was a long time member of the St. Joseph the Worker parish.
Peter could fix anything. He loved to tinker in the garage and always had a project in the works. Among his many talents, he was an accomplished artist, electrician, and a wonderful handyman.
Peter retired from the US Steel Mill in 1988.
His family was his pride and joy.
Beloved husband of the late Catherine Matiko, Mr. Matiko was the loving father of Peter Jr (Joann) of Perkasie; David (Leslie) of St. Thomas, Pa; Matthew (Donna) of Fairless Hills, PA; and Ruthann Fogleman (Steve) of Largo, FL.
Peter is survived by brothers Paul and Andrew.
He will be greatly missed by his granddaughters Lillie, Madilyn and Tori Matiko as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Matiko was predeceased by his parents and 7 siblings.
Family and friends are invited to call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9th at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. Friends are also invited to attend his funeral Mass at 9:30 am. on Thursday, June 10th at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 325 S. Oxford Valley Rd., Fairless Hills. Interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
