Born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 2, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Denis and Lena (Small) Murphy; and the wife of the late Matthew J. Regan. Mrs. Regan has been a long-time resident of Falls Township and was a member of Saint Frances Cabrini Parish, Fairless Hills.
Peggy grew up in Brooklyn and the Bronx in a loving, nurturing, Irish Catholic household. After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1950, she began working a secretarial job for Manufactures Trust Company in the heart of Manhattan, while taking night classes. Peggy met her future husband, Matthew Regan, in 1951. After dating only three months, they were engaged to be married. When her father, Denis, accepted a job at U.S. Steel, the Murphys moved to Fairless Hills in 1952 and her fiance soon followed. Peggy and Matt started working there as well. On February 7, 1953, they were married in the Bronx, enjoyed a honeymoon in Miami, FL and then purchased a home and settled in Fairless Hills, where they raised five children. Peggy returned to the workforce in 1967 as a bank teller at 1st Federal Bank of Bucks County in Bristol, PA.
Tragically, Peggy became a widow at the young age of 43. She was kind and loving, yet, strong, determined, and intelligent, and carried on with the help of her loving family and friends. Peggy continued working and taking classes in money management and consumer lending throughout her thirty-year career in the banking industry. She retired in 1995 as Assistant Manager and became her mother's caregiver until Lena's death. Peggy received a Certificate of Recognition from Children of Aging Parents as an Outstanding caregiver for her compassion, dedication and sacrifice.
She loved to learn. After years of working with numbers, Peggy became interested in creative writing and took courses to improve those skills. Then, she started writing her memoirs, leaving a wonderful history of her life for her grandchildren. Peggy was the family historian and storyteller. Her family and friends would look to her for facts and stories about the past which she could recall with ease. She embraced her Irish Heritage and kept up communications with her family abroad and was the link for the Murphys and Regans in Ireland and the United States.
Peggy was one of the founding members of the Respect Life Group at St. Frances Cabrini. She belonged to SFC Women's guild, Legion of Mary, Charismatic Group and the Association of Celtic Society.
Peggy loved to travel and explore other cultures. She traveled throughout the United States, Ireland, Scotland, Greece, Italy, and so many more. She also took pilgrimages to Israel, eastern and western European Countries. She also loved the beach. From Coney Island to Rockaway to Seaside and Brigantine, she loved the sea. Most of all, Peggy loved life! She enjoyed her time with her beautiful, multi-generational family. She looked at each day as a new adventure! She was an inspiration.
Mrs. Regan is the loving mother of Ann Marie Shrewsbury (Gary), Matthew J. Regan (Mary), Peg Regan (late Marshall Brooks), Eileen Monahan (Tony) and Patricia Formicola (Nick).
She will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Jennifer Finn (Dan), Kathleen Kellogg (Joe), Patty Ann Triglia (Nick), Laureen Blanchette (Pascal), Megan Honeycutt (Mike), Shannon Webb (Johnny), Krysten Bentz (Matt), Nicholas Formicola and Coleen Formicola; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Lena Souza (late Tony); and sister-in-law, Carol Murphy (late Denis).
